Gorton Lecture Series with Scott Powell Discovery Institute
Why is Capitalism on the Defensive?
Winston Churchill famously said that “democracy is the worst form of government…except for all the others.” A similar axiom can be applied to capitalism and free enterprise. Capitalism certainly isn’t perfect, but no other system of economics has come close to free enterprise in creating wealth and lifting people out of poverty.
But if this is true, why is capitalism on the defensive? How is it being undermined, and why? And, finally, what are the requirements that enable the free market to prosper? Join Discovery Institute Senior Fellow Scott Powell as he addresses these questions. Mr. Powell has a distinguished background as an author, journalist and former scholar of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. You won’t want to miss the opportunity to hear from him, and to ask him your questions.
This event is sponsored by Discovery Institute's Center for Civic Leadership (CFCL), and is part of our Gorton Lecture Series. Though the work of the CFCL is tailored to students and young professionals, attendance at this event is open to anyone. Do you know someone who might not be convinced that capitalism is the best option? Bring them to this event where they can hear a new point of view and ask their questions!
